BRYCAM - Baton Rouge
Young Catholic Adult Ministries
Mission
BRYCAM
is a Catholic young adult organization that is dedicated to fun and fellowship
by focusing on service, social life and spirituality. Our goal is to be a
support organization to help foster the healthy growth of Catholic young adult
ministries in the Baton Rouge Diocese. We hope to achieve this by supporting
organizations that provide young adults with social, spiritual and service
opportunities. We hope that, through this support, BRYCAM will help create an
environment where young adults are welcomed empowered members of their parish
communities.
History
In May 2004 a small group gathered with the idea of forming a diocesan young
adult ministry in Baton Rouge. Our members originally consisted of any one
18-35 in The
Diocese
of Baton Rouge. In August 2004 we established
Christ
The King Parish as the base for our efforts. Today we have one
BRYCAM organization at Christ the King Parish which is loosely affiliated with
pre-existent young adult groups at
St.
Isidore,
St.
Patrick?s and
St.
Jude parishes as well as new established groups at
St.
Thomas More. Work is underway to help establish BRYCAM groups
at other parishes in the Baton Rouge Diocese. BRYCAM currently coordinates the
Theology
on Tap initiative in Baton Rouge and represents young adults on
the
RENEW
Diocesan Core Committee.
Fr.
John Carville, associate pastor at Christ The King, is our
group moderator. It is a direct result of his support that we exist today.
S.
Ileana Fernandez, CSJ, vocations director for the Sister of St.
Joseph of Medaille, is the moderator of our Theology on Tap group. It is a
direct result of her efforts alone with other TOT leaders that we have had the
success that we enjoy currently with the program.
